Anything affording pleasure, diversion, or amusement: a ball, a concert, a play, a crossword puzzle. Entertaiment can also mean the hospitable provision of food, music and dance for guests at a banquet, or the presentation of sports and games for spectators. Many forms of entertainment have a dual purpose, and even some traditionally serious activities, like hunting or archery, may be developed into spectator sports and televised. The classic story of Scheherazade, from the professional storytelling tradition, has been retold as an orchestral work, a film and an innovative video game.
