Entertaiment

Something affording pleasure or diversion; amusement: a crossword puzzle is an entertainment for many. Also: agreeable occupation for the mind; a means of attaining perception or highbrow growth (as in art, music or literature). Also: hospitable provision.

For children, entertainment is often centred on play, which mimics adult activities like watching performances; prepares them for responsibilities such as child rearing and social interaction (through toys and games); develops skills such as motor skills needed for sports or music; and provides education through story-telling. For example, the story of Scheherazade, a professional storyteller in the Persian tradition, has been retold as an opera by Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and Szymanowski; in film by Pasolini; and as an innovative video game.
